Mouse Practice

According to our Massachusetts Technology Standards, students kindergarten through second grade should demonstrate beginning steps in using available hardware (i.e. keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, headphones) and applications.  To support this standard we are using a variety of mouse skill games to encourage our learners to become confident in manipulating the mouse and keyboard with simple commands.  Check out the Computer Literacy links to the right of this post for some great games to extend this at home.

Chat Noir - The Black Cat
A flash game that inccorporates the use of point and click skills using the mouse.  It also challenges students to predict patterns.  A must play!

Parts of a Computer

This week students were introduced to the various components of a computer.  To introduce this concept we used a short video clip from BrainPOP Jr. an online educational resource that creates animated, curricumlum-based content.  You can sign up for a free 5-day trial to check it out yourself.   Below is an image that assisted students in beginning conversations about computer hardware and software.  Ask your child to teach you, or watch the video together!
